PlasmaWave Air Cleaning Technology

When air first enters the Winix 5500-2 Air Purifier it passes through a washable pre-filter to capture large, easy-to-see particles like pet hair, dust, and dirt. Then a 3-stage air cleaning process begins to remove harmful allergens, odors, and bacteria.

• Odor Reducing Carbon Filter: Formulated with activated carbon material, it absorbs light household odors from chemicals, pet odors, and tobacco smoke. This is a washable filter for fewer changes.
• True HEPA Filter: Leaving indoor air as clean as possible, this second stage removes 99.97% of harmful particles down to 0.3 microns.
• PlasmaWave Technology: The final cleaning stage, this patented technology generates and releases thousands of negatively and positively charged ions which combine with water vapor in the air to form Hydroxyls. These Hydroxyls work to instantly neutralize airborne viruses, bacteria, chemical vapors, odors, and gases. Absolutely zero ozone is created during this process and PlasmaWave can be easily turned off and on via the control panel.

Simplified Operation

Created with the user in mind, the Winix 5500-2 is packed with upgraded features for easier improvement of indoor air. Very similar to the Winix 5300-2, it’s equipped with a remote control so you can operate the unit’s power, enable auto mode, change fan speed, or select Turbo fan speed from up to 20 feet away.

• Touch Control Panel: Designed of easy operation, the intuitive digital control panel is the one stop spot for complete control of the air cleaner’s features.
• Air Quality Notification: While running, the unit constantly monitors the indoor air. Current air quality levels are indicated on the control panel by 1 of 3 LED light colors. Colors include: Good (Blue), Fair (Amber), and Poor (Red).
• Auto Mode: Based on on the unit’s air quality sensor, fan speed is adjusted to 1 of 4 speeds according to current readings.
• Sleep Mode: For increased nighttime comfort, selecting sleep mode will turn the fan to its lowest speed and dim the Air Quality indicator light.
• Filter Indicator Light: The light illuminates when it’s time to check the filters. The carbon filter needs to be cleaned every 3 months and replaced every 12 months. HEPA filtration lasts approximately 1 year.
